Mind Reading

Mind reading is the act of hearing another person's thoughts.

It occurs in roughly one in every three hundred million people across the universe, and requires training to develop into a useful ability. In its untrained state, mind readers may have flashes of intuition that have no logical basis in reality, but turn out to be accurate.

Training

Training usually begins by attuning your mind to hear the thoughts of other people. It is common for a mind reader to need eye contact with their target before their thoughts can be heard, but this goes away with further training.

The second phase of training occurs once a mind reader can passively hear the thoughts of everyone in a certain radius. This stage is about teaching your mind to filter out the thoughts you're not interested in. It takes some time, but eventually mind readers can pick and choose what they want to hear.

It is possible for non-mind readers to attract the attention of a mind reader who is within range by simply thinking the mind reader's name. Much like a shout, this is more noticeable in the background noise of thoughts to a mind reader.

Defences

Some individuals have developed the ability to defend their thoughts against being read, but little is known about how this is achieved so far.
